Students at BBC have achieved phenomenal things in their academic pursuits not only within their classroom studies but also through superlative results in outside programs, educational trips overseas, and by representing the College in competitions.
What were some of BBC’s academic special achievements in 2024?
Over more than 120 years of continuous operation, BBC students have achieved some magnificent feats. Too many to completely recount, in fact. For your convenience, here’s just a taste of what the boys accomplished in 2024:
- 46 students received an early university offer
- 10 students completed a University of Queensland Enhanced Studies university course alongside their QCE
- 1 student completed a Griffith University Head Start university course alongside his QCE
- 68 students completed one or more VET qualifications
- 4 students pursued a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship
- 2 students were awarded a QCE Distinguished Academic Achiever Award. Only 35 awards were conferred in Queensland in 2024.
- 25 perfect Study Scores of 100/100 were attained across ten different subjects – Physics, Biology, Mathematical Methods, English, English & Literature Extension, Literature, Music, Music Extension (Composition), Music Extension (Performance), and Film, Television & New Media.
- 31 students earned a QCE Certificate of Academic Commendation – 26 students earned straight As in six subjects and 5 students earned straight As in seven subjects.
- 11 Honours Society students were invited to visit the University of Cambridge in 2024. This amazing experience saw our students choose from courses in Global Business, Game Theory, Medical Science, Law, International Business, and Aerospace Engineering.
- Our Scholars’ Assembly was held in January 2025, with 54 boys recognised for their outstanding results in 2024 achieving over 95.00.
- The BBC team, Radar, was recognised for their brilliant submission to the International Mathematical Modelling Competition (IMMC) and invited to present in Hong Kong. The team, comprising four Year 12 students, wrote a 20-page report over five days at the start of the year. Their entry placed second in Australia and was then forwarded to the International Judging Round, where it was acknowledged as Meritorious.

- Five students achieved High Distinctions in The University of Queensland’s Enhanced Studies program across the Calculus and Linear Algebra, Introductory Microeconomics, and Understanding Digital Health subjects.
- Four Year 9 students were the State Champions at the Ethics Olympiad and competed internationally in February 2025
- Four Year 10 students achieved bronze medals in the Ethics Olympiad
- A Year 12 student was awarded an Excellence Award for his original artwork at the Creative Generation Excellence Awards in Visual Art. His work will be exhibited at the Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art at South Bank.
- Two Year 10 students were invited to the state finals of the Australian Brain Bee Challenge, held at the UQ Queensland Brain Institute, and were awarded silver in the Teams Challenge
- A Year 11 and a Year 9 student earned High Distinctions in the Australian Language Certificate (Level 3) for both Listening and Reading in French

- Robotics teams Alphatron (open soccer) and Delta (open rescue maze) placed first in Australia while our third team, Aurora (lightweight soccer), placed third as a wild card entry
