Safeguarding Message from Headmaster Casson

Brisbane Boys’ College is committed to child safeguarding and protecting the welfare of the children and young people in our care. All children and young people have the right to feel and be safe. At BBC we view safeguarding as an integral element of providing a high-level education, which aims to assist our students to develop into thriving adults who are positively connected to each other and to the communities in which they live and to which they will serve.

The College regards its child safety responsibilities with the utmost importance and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice complies with our statutory obligations and reflects best practice. As part of this commitment, the College has provided training to key staff in the Keeping Safe: Child Safeguarding Curriculum which is a P-12 developmentally appropriate curriculum which provides students with the knowledge and tools to keep themselves safe.

Everyone within the College community shares in the responsibility, both individually and collectively, for safeguarding children and young people, including immediately reporting to a Child Safeguarding Officer or the Headmaster any child safety concern they may have.

  • Standing against all forms of abuse, neglect and harm. Always.
  • Valuing and celebrating the cultural diversity, identity and background of every child and young person, ensuring our practices are culturally safe and responsive.
  • Providing an environment that promotes and upholds the right to cultural safety of students who are Aboriginal persons or Torres Strait Islander persons.
  • Making sure our staff and volunteers are rigorously selected, well-trained, caring and ready to act if something isn’t right.
  • Always looking for ways to do better, learn and grow as a community.

Child Safeguarding Officers (CSOs) at Brisbane Boys’ College

Brisbane Boys’ College has appointed a number of Child Safeguarding Officers who can be your first point of contact for most situations involving child safety incidents or concerns and who provide an important additional avenue for reporting child safeguarding concerns other than to the Headmaster. Our Child Safeguarding Officers are able to assist in clarifying your reporting obligations and can also answer any questions that you may have with respect to the PMSA Child Safeguarding Processes and managing the next steps.

You must report all child safeguarding concerns immediately and keep a written record of the circumstances and action taken.
