PMSA

BBC is one of four outstanding schools owned by the Presbyterian and Methodist Schools Association (PMSA), along with our sibling schools Clayfield College, Somerville House, and Sunshine Coast Grammar School. The PMSA also owns and operates Rising Peaks, an outdoor education and experiential learning destination located at Lake Moogerah.

What is the PMSA?

The PMSA, a joint mission of the Uniting Church of Australia, Queensland Synod and the Presbyterian Church of Queensland, has a rich history. It was likely one of the first inter-denominational school missions in Australia, formed in 1918 to purchase BBC (then known as Clayfield College) and Somerville House (then known as Brisbane High School for Girls).

The PMSA rechristened BBC as Brisbane Boys’ College in 1920 and relocated the fast-growing school from our original Clayfield location to the current campus in Toowong in 1930. The original site became the newly formed Clayfield College in 1931.

What is the PMSA’s role at BBC?

The PMSA operates Brisbane Boys’ College through the BBC Advisory Council. Together, they provide the College with a strategy and framework that fosters excellence in teaching and learning, a caring Christian culture, and support for governance and policy-making. The Advisory Council is delegated the responsibility of governing and administering the school’s performance.

The PMSA works with the Brisbane Boys’ College Advisory Council and Headmaster to provide:

  • A caring, Christian-based culture
  • High-quality programs for developing teaching excellence
  • Financial strength and support
  • Human resources, legal, and compliance support
  • Governance and policy-making support, particularly around child safety

Who sits on the PMSA board?

The PMSA is governed by a Board that is comprised of up to eight members. The Presbyterian Church of Queensland and the Uniting Church each appoint three members, and up to two members are directly appointed by the PMSA Board. Each Board member is a volunteer and holds office for up to three years per term. Board members are eligible for re-appointment up to a maximum period of nine years.
