Academic Overview
The basis of our education philosophy at Brisbane Boys' College is
simple: a successful education does not teach students what to think,
but how to think. If we are to prepare tomorrow's leaders, we must
help them to develop flexibility of mind, strength of character, social
skills and a sound belief system.
As a boys' school, BBC is specifically tailored to meet the needs
of young men as they progress through their education. Excellence
is valued and academically gifted students are challenged to reach
their full potential. Indeed students at all ability levels are provided
with individual support and attention and the school prides itself
on the care offered to all.
We offer a broad range of subjects, from the fundamental of 3 R's
of learning - reading, writing and arithmetic - to performing arts
disciplines, vocational training subjects, computing and information
technology. This broad educational framework permits boys to choose
their own direction, whether it be on to tertiary studies or directly
into the workforce. Providing a truly balanced education has always
been central to the ethos of BBC.
Cocurricular Overview
A balanced education is a priority at BBC and the range of activities
available for boys ensures that is achieved.
Boys are given the chance to pursue specialised interests through
the wider school programme, which is a natural extension of what is
taught in the classroom.
An important part of any broad-based education is the opportunity
for self-expression. At BBC, all students are introduced to a wide
range of sport and cultural activities at an early age and are encouraged
to pursue these to the full extent of their ability.
