A few interesting facts about WaterPolo
- The players do not ride ponies.
- It is the oldest Olympic team sport.
- A majority of USA College Swimming Coaches insist that their swimmers
play Water Polo in order to provide an enjoyable strengthening program
and a team aspect to what is ostensibly an individual sport.
- All Water Polo coaches insist that their players are involved in a
swimming program.
- Water Polo provides a swimmer 13 chances to make a representative team
as distinct to the one chance provided by an individual swimming event.
- At this point in time there are far fewer boys playing Water Polo than
are involved in swimming or most other major sports.
Water Polo provides an opportunity to play the sport at all levels
(local, state, national, and international) through schools and clubs
at all ages (U13 – 55+)
- One can continue to play Water Polo later in life than most games as
water sports place less stress on joints and ligaments than land based
activities.
Invitation from RiverCity Water Polo Club to BBC Players
Already in its short water polo history, BBC has had numerous current
and former players in Regional, State and Australian Schoolboy teams
as well as U/14, U/17 and U/20 State Teams, Australian Youth teams,
Queensland and Australian University teams as well as National League
Teams. These players, without exception, gained these honours after
playing Club Water Polo. The sponsoring club of BBC Water Polo is the
RiverCity Water Polo
Club. Former BBC players coach both RiverCity
and BBC teams. The Junior Coaching Coordinator of RiverCity and State
U14 Coach is Bob Boyd a BBC coach since Water Polo started at BBC in
1995.
Each year RiverCity provides current BBC players with the opportunity
to become involved in their Winter Intraclub fast fives competition,
and novice players with the opportunity to be involved in their ‘learn
to play’ program. In 2003 these programs commence at their home
pool (Splash Centenary Pools Gregory Terrace) on Sunday July 20 (novices
1-2pm, U15 Juniors 2 –3.15pm, Seniors and over 15 Juniors 3.15 – 5pm).
To be placed on the Club’s information email list and to register
your interest for Winter Programs please contact the Club Registrar
Lynn Jensen (0427 642
937). Club President Joanne Swaffield and all RiverCity club members
look forward to interacting
with any BBC player who takes up their invitation to be involved.
RiverCity sign on day for the 2003/4 Club Water Polo season will be
held during the Winter Intraclub Program on Sunday 24 August. Further
information about RiverCity can be obtained from the Club Registrar
Lynn Jensen, Senior
Coaching Coordinator and Queensland Breakers Coach Peter
Bagster (0402 831 840), Junior Coaching
Coordinator Bob Boyd (3864 3078,
