Q: What are the Selection Procedures for the Brisbane Boys College Cricket Side?
A: In the Open grade, teams are identified numerically (1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, etc) while, in other grades, teams are identified alphabetically (eg 15A, 15B, 15C, etc).
Teams are sequenced in order of ability with the 1st XI and 'A' teams being the best in their respective groupings.
The 1st XI can comprise players from any grade level and its selection criteria are the players' physical qualities, current form, cricket skills, versatility, team orientation, and mental strength. Age at 1 November initially determines the grouping of all other players. Then the same selection criteria as listed for the 1st XI determines all other team memberships.
Team selection is completed by:
1st XI: 1st XI Coach and the Director of Cricket
Other teams: in numerical/alphabetical sequence by the team's coach and the Director of Cricket.
All team selections are subject to final approval by the Headmaster.
Initial team selections are to occur before the start of the GPS season to promote the readiness of the players for the first GPS fixture.
A system of player promotion and relegation applies throughout the season. That is, players may be promoted or demoted from one team to another, usually within their age group, based upon the selection criteria. Coaches are expected to communicate positively with both promoted and relegated players so that they are motivated to play at their selected level and to enjoy their involvement.
Team lists for each round of GPS fixtures will be displayed on the cricket noticeboard near the pool by the Friday prior to the relevant round of fixtures.

Q. What are the playing procedures?
A: All BBC teams will play according to the general rules of cricket and those specifically listed for the GPS competition in a manner appropriate to the traditions of the game.
The strongest BBC teams will play according to the generally accepted practice of cricket whereby player involvement (batting order, bowling spells, fielding positions) is based upon their skill levels and the appropriateness of those skills to the situation of the game.
Coaches of other BBC teams are encouraged to support the development of the players within their team by providing them with opportunities to test their full range of cricket skills under match conditions.
Players will represent their College and play according to the BBC Cricket Codes of Behaviour and Attire, and the BBC Style of Play.

Q: What determines teenage cricketers' enjoyment of cricket?
Teenage cricketers identify the following factors as the five principal determinants of their enjoyment of cricket. The points are listed in descending order of importance to the boys.
- Improving my skill level or learning new skills.
- Doing the skills - batting, bowling, fielding - of the game.
- Having a good relationship with the coach.
