Each year, BBC produces a school musical, in conjunction with a girls'
school. The season runs for three nights in May.
Preference is given to
Years 10, 11 and 12 students for on-stage performance because of the maturity of voices required.
Other opportunities which exist for students in this activity are participation
in the full orchestra used, back stage work, scenic production, lighting
and sound work, publicity and front-of-house activity, or just attendance
at one of the three sell-out performances.
As the production period is a short one for a major musical, students
must give dedication in the highly disciplined rehearsal sessions. The
resultant musical is of a high artistic standard and all participants
are then proud and most fulfilled by the successful outcome. Team participation,
social interaction, artistic development and confidence/self esteem
building are all life-skill outcomes of this BBC activity.
