BBC competes in two competitions throughout the year.

Chess begins in late February with BBC participating in the Queensland High School Chess Championships conducted by the Chess Association of Queensland. Any student at BBC wishing to play chess will be placed in a team and installed into this competition. This CAQ competition is conducted on Friday nights from 7pm to 10.30pm for 5 consecutive weeks. All players are asked to attend practice and training sessions conducted on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm to 4.30pm.

Following this competition, BBC will select 2 senior teams and 3 junior teams to represent the College in the GPS Chess fixtures. Each team consists of 4 players. The GPS Chess Competition is conducted in conjunction with the Rugby / Soccer season from April to July on the preceding Friday afternoon / night to the Saturday football fixture.

Following the GPS season the College Chess Championships are played in Term 3 and 4 over four Wednesday afternoons. The competition is played in year levels with an overall Champion determined by a round robin Tournament of the Year Champions.

BBC has a good tradition of being a strong Chess school and offers a comprehensive coaching programme each Wednesday throughout the year to any interested student to ensure that this tradition continues.

Chess meets on Wednesday afternoons from 3pm - 5pm in I401.

Once the GPS session starts on 4th May competition will be on Friday afternoons.
