Australian Rules Football 2008 Training Times 2008
History During the last century there have been many attempts to develop Australian Football in the independent schools of Queensland. In 1991 a concerted effort was made by the newly formed Queensland Australian Football Development Foundation (QAFDF) and several other football enthusiasts. The efforts of these people have led to a developing competition in many of the independent schools in South East Queensland. There are strong primary school competitions played throughout the Brisbane area. This secondary competition provides a great opportunity for youth to continue to develop skills they have acquired at primary school. Students new to the game have been surprised at the enjoyment they have had and are always commenting on the aid it has given them in improving their ball handling skills. The competition is positioned at such a time so as to have minimum impact on other sporting calendars, hence the short season and no weekend games. Up until February 1995, the competition was run by the QAFDF. It was then that a meeting was held to establish the Queensland Independent Schools Australian Football League (QISAFL). The competition has since been coordinated by this body as a sub-committee of the QAFDF, now the QAFF. The competition started with Open and Under 15 age groups. BBC fielded a team in each, with two sides in Under 15 in 1992. In 1993, an Under 13 competition was introduced and our representation grew to four teams. 1994 saw the addition of Open 2nds and 13B teams. The QISAFL competition grew and in 1996 there were three divisions in Open and Under 15 with 6 teams in each, plus five Under 13 teams. 1997 was the addition of a fourth Open division, for 2nds, and eight Under 13 teams. The Australian Rules fixtures commence immediately after the Rugby and Soccer seasons. Teams in the Open, U15, U14 and U13 divisions play in the Independent Schools' Competition. Fixtures are held on Tuesday and Friday nights at grounds around Brisbane. Training normally consists of two sessions per week. Several BBC boys have progressed significantly since leaving school:
