Brisbane Boys' College has two sister schools in Japan.
Brisbane Boys' college traditionally plays host to one of these schools each year. The students homestay with our BBC families for 10 days to two weeks, and attend BBC while they are here, also taking English lessons. BBC students benefit from these visits, not only by making friends with people from other cultures, but also by learning about traditional aspects of Japanese life through instruction by visiting Japanese teachers, e.g. calligraphy, the tea ceremony, and origami. Each year, the senior students (Years 11 & 12) have the opportunity to homestay with Japanese families and attend one of our sister schools over the Christmas holidays. Students who take advantage of this opportunity always have a wonderful time, thanks to the kindness of the homestay families and the students and staff of the school involved. Lasting friendships have been forged and our students return full of enthusiasm for the study of Japanese and interested in Japanese culture. Other students have spent a year in Japan, having made their own arrangements with student exchange organisations. |
