While just four kilometres from the City, the school is surrounded by leafy old suburbs and fine examples of early Queensland architecture, many of which, like the main school buildings, are heritage listed.

From this central position, students have easy access to transport, with bus stops directly outside the school and a railway station five minutes walk away.

Also located nearby are the University of Queensland, the State's largest tertiary institution, and a reach of the Brisbane River where the School's boat shed is situated.
